So I’ve been off for a bit of a break with my family on holiday. I’ve enjoyed being mostly disconnected and certainly at a slower pace. The word that sums up this sorta 2 weeks is: sunshine ☀️. We’ve been near the mountains and the beach and got a lot of sun. It was fun to stay in a caravan together, but by the end appreciation for our own home abounds.
A top moment for me was taking the kids body boarding 🌊 for the first time. Something I’m looking forward to next week is working from a slightly different location, with nice long train commutes with my novel to keep me company.
My week headlines
🧠 Understanding: Some self understanding about energy cycles. Ways to reduce the email noise at work. inspiration about ‘benevolent detachment’ per John Eldredge: or even just a time to spin down at the end of my day.
🧶 Creating & cultivating: Memories with my family 🏖️. Some style tweaks to this part of my website.
📺 Consuming: Steak, wine 🍷, Wheel of Time book 3, homemade scones (by my wife). Brilliantly insightful and open essays on C S Lewis’ fiction.
🔆 Connecting: Relative from overseas visiting this weekend: was really great to connect.
✒️ Pen & ink combo: Muji fountain pen and ⬛️ Kaweco Black.
🏹 One thing for future self: I undervalue the benefit of a slow disconnection routine.
